Dear Mr. AY,
You stole my spot. When I saw you for the first time, you were sitting there under the tree, wearing a black hoodie and holding your head.
Gradually, I started seeing you around campus a
lot. Suddenly, I began noticing you everywhere. You are always around, wherever
I go on in this campus. You’re usually alone and quiet, even when you’re with
your friends, classmates, or batchmates.
I learned from one of my classmates that you
drink. Then, from an email written by DVY, I discovered that you had attempted
to end your life. Later, I found out your full story—falling head over heels
for a girl, going through an on-and-off relationship with her, being cheated on
by her with her ex during summer vacation, and then trying to end it all—or
perhaps, end your pain.
These days, I see you a lot in the dining hall
(we call it Mess), sometimes in the cafeteria or at the basketball court. Why
am I even noticing you? I don’t know. Why am I always thinking about you
lately? I don’t know. Is it a crush or just sympathy? I don’t know, nor do I
want to know, because I’m certain I’ll be the one who will end up getting hurt
in the end.
Since I don’t even exist in your world, I’m
ending this—whatever it is—right here, right at this moment.
I wish you success in life. I hope that once
you leave this campus, you achieve whatever you want in life.
Good luck!
With a sincere heart,
Professor Rose
Update (11/18/2024): He
graduated this year, as he was a year senior to me. He’s now working somewhere
reputable, living his life…to the fullest or not…I don’t know, nor do I want to
know.
